It also reacts quickly with carbohydrate residues. PEGylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It can also suppress the non-specific binding of charged molecules to the modified surfaces. Biotin functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG-Biotin) is an avidin or streptavidin binding PEG derivative that is used to biotinylate biomolecules or other material surfaces.
