    (1)具有宽的激发波长范围和窄的发射波长范围,即可以使用小于其发射波长10 nm的任意波长的激发光进行激发,这样就可以使用同一种激发光同时激发多种量子点,发射出不同波长的荧光,因而可用于多种标记物的同时检测,极大地促进了荧光标记在生物医学中的应用。而传统的有机荧光染料的激发光波长范围较窄,需要多种波长的激发光来激发多种荧光染料,这样给实际的研究工作带来了很多的不便。 
    (2)量子点的发射峰窄而对称,且连续分布,重叠小,这样,在一个可检测到的光谱范围内可同时使用多个探针,而发射光谱不出现交叠,使生物分子的多组分分析检测变得容易。而传统的有机荧光染料的发射峰不仅宽,而且不对称,拖尾严重,互相重叠严重,容易互相干扰,给分析检测带来难以解决的难题。 
    (3)量子点的发射波长可通过控制它的大小和组成来调谐,可以任意合成所需波长的量子点,大小均匀的量子点谱峰为对称高斯分布,而传统的有机荧光染料的峰形则为对数正态分布。 
    (4)量子点的荧光强度比常用的有机荧光染料罗丹明6G染料高20倍,它的稳定性更是罗丹明6G染料的100倍以上,而且量子点抗光漂白能力强。所谓光漂白是指由光激发引起发光物质分解而使荧光强度降低的现象。有机荧光染料的光漂白速率很快,而量子点的光漂白作用则远远小的多,因此可以对所标记的物体进行长时间的观察,并可以毫无困难的进行相关界面的修饰和连接,而不像传统的有机荧光染料那样容易发生荧光淬灭。这也为研究细胞中生物分子之间长期相互作用提供了有力的工具。 
    (5)生物相容性好,尤其是经过各种化学修饰之后,可以进行特异性连接,细胞毒性低,对生物体危害小,可进行生物活体标记和检测,而传统的有机荧光染料一般毒性较大,生物相容性差。 
    (6)荧光寿命长,典型的有机荧光染料的荧光寿命仅为几纳秒(ns),这与很多生物样本的自发荧光衰减的时间相当。而量子点的荧光寿命可持续长达数十纳秒(20 ns~50 ns),这使得当光激发数纳秒以后,大多数的自发荧光背景已经衰减,而量子点荧光仍然存在,此时即可获得无背景干扰的荧光信号。 
    这些*的光学特性,使量子点成为了一种理想的荧光探针。因此,使用量子点代替有机荧光染料,将在细胞定位、信号传导、细胞内分子的运动和迁移等研究中发挥重要的作用。鉴于以上这些优点,量子点的制备以及在各领域的应用研究都取得了突破性进展。
