Fmoc is an amine protecting group, it can be deprotected in piperidine/DMF solution to release protected amine groups for further reaction. Fmoc protected PEG amine allows selective reaction with one amine group on the PEG terminus. PEGylation can increase stability and reduce immunogenicity of pegylated molecules.
